A note from H.E. Mr S. Skandakumar
High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Australia
Ranjan Mellawa’s romance of five decades with this marvellous game we call Cricket, shared generously in “Winds Behind the Willows” is not without its share of tragedy.
A game whose values stood firmly for all that is fair and just and influenced positively the lives of those who had the good fortune to play or administer it, takes a turn for the worse as the story unfolds with the good winds changing direction, and almost threatening a Tsunami!
It brings to focus what is gained when one is involved with the noble game for what one can give to it, and what is lost when that involvement is for what one can get out of it.
Notwithstanding the interim turbulence, Ranjan’s loyalty to the game remains unshaken and his perspective on and knowledge of it combined with some memorable experiences so vividly recalled, do make “Winds Behind the Willows” a must for every cricket lover.
Congratulations Ranjan and thank you indeed for the complimentary copy. May that good wind blow
generously on your back as well. You have earned it!!
Warm regards, and blessings,
Skanda 15 November
