Cricket Explained: Balls & Bats

A weather vane

After both elevens have been without from within twice,
including those not out,
then the barman may pull the stopper out!

Two sides, eleven each;
One within the boundary and one without.
Armed with balls and bats.

The eleven who are within,
strive to get ten of the eleven who come from without, out.

Each man that’s without gets within and when out, goes out,
followed by the next one without, who gets within until he gets out;
so on and so forth until the side without are all out.

When the ones from without are all out,
the eleven within go out and the eleven without come within
and try to get all those without now, out, one by one.

Mostly, one from without is yet within and not out.
Sometimes, two from without are within and not out.

Two middle-men, called Umpires,
come from without and stay within,
until all those within are without,
and come back when those without are within.

After both elevens have been without from within twice,
including those not out,
then the barman may pull the stopper out!
